I’ve always been in awe of my sister. This phase of life is no exception.

For me, having a big sister is like having a glimpse into what’s next. She tackles all of life’s firsts with grace and bravery. I watch and take it all in. Mental notes of how to be a little stronger, a little wiser, a little more understanding.

What makes my sister special is that she’s never asked me to be anything other than the younger sibling. She watches over my heart and cares for me, knowing that even if I do it all differently, she’s still proud of me. She’s so good in that way.

And so I watch my sister become a Mom, evolving into her next role (one I know she will put on effortlessly). I think about how lucky this child will be to have MY big sister as their guide like mine. Someone crafty, goofy, fun. Justice-oriented, an advocate for others' needs and her own.

Did I mention beautiful?

We took these photos in her backyard with some dappled light and film-inspired grain. They will be some of my favorites forever.
